Delhi Metro currently is not able to make enough profits as it used to do, during pre-pandemic times. The global pandemic has severely affected the revenue generation of the DMRC.
DMRC incurred operating loss of Rs. 1761. 23 crores in the year 2020-21.
The main reason of this loss was the pandemic of the year 2020-21, when metro was shut for nearly five months.
Although the restrictions were removed after a few months, ridership was still low.
One of the major reason that can be considered for low ridership was hybrid work-mode. Since companies have switched to work from home policies, the ridership has decreased.
Another reason was people opting for online services for grooming, grocery shopping, clothes and almsot everything.
Availability of a number of apps has made the delivery of goods and at-home services easy.
But there’s a silver lining, the daily ridership has been gradually increasing every month as the covid cases tend to decrease and the restrictions by the government ease-out.
