Delhi Metro Link

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is the newest addition to public transportation in Delhi. It completed its first Phase of connectivity throughout West Delhi with links connecting New Delhi Railway Station and Old Delhi Railway Station, parts of North Delhi, East Delhi and Central Delhi. The second Phase promises to connect all parts of West Delhi to South Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon along with an express metro link to the Indira Gandhi International and Domestic Airport which should be completed by the end of 2010.

The Delhi Metro is the most affordable, safest and the most convenient mode of transport for tourists and travellers in Delhi. It has A/C cabins with electricity backup that runs through every metro station at an interval of 5 minutes and hence avoids the discomfort of you having to wait for long hours at the Metro Station saving time.

Buses

Delhi has 3,106 public buses that operate over 773 routes managed by the Delhi Transport Corporation.

Auto-rickshaws are motorized tricycles that open on either side that offer cheap transport, however, always ensure that you pay according to the metre rates and purchase the latest fare list in advance.

Auto-Rickshaw fare charge as per Government rules are as follows :

  1. Rs. 19.00 for the first Kilometre (upon downing the meter) and thereafter Rs. 6.50 per Kilometre for every additional Kilometre that runs. (Subject to change)
  2. Night Charges are applicable @25% of the Fare from 11:00 PM to 05:00 AM.
  3. Waiting Charges are applicable @ Rs. 25.00 per hour for a minimum wait time of 15 minutes.
  4. Luggage is charged @ Rs. 5.00 per luggage excluding shopping bags or small attaché cases and handbags.

Bicycle Rickshaws

Bicycle rickshaws are also available around Delhi that commute only within specific zones and are one of the cheapest modes of transport.

TAXIS

Taxis (Black and Yellow Top) are operational around Delhi that is run by the government as well as Car Rentals are available on hire from authorised private sectors.

The Black-Yellow Top Taxi charges are as follows:

  1. Rs. 15.00 for the first Kilometre (upon downing the meter) and thereafter Rs. 8.50 per Kilometre for every additional Kilometre that runs. (Subject to change)
  2. Night Charges are applicable @25% of the Fare from 11:00 PM to 05:00 AM.
  3. Waiting Charges are applicable @ Rs. 25.00 per hour for a minimum wait time of 15 minutes.
