NAJAFGARH

Najafgarh is one of the three sub districts of South West Delhi that is still predominantly a rural zone. It is situated in the outskirts of the South western part of Delhi and borders the State of Haryana owing to which it homes a blend of urban as well as rural population that constitutes of inhabitants from New Delhi as well as Haryana. The total population of this Village is a little over 9 lakhs and the literacy rate is estimated at 82.83 %.

Najafgarh is surrounded by a combination of 70 villages that borders the State of Haryana with the border situated approximately 25 to 30 Kms away from the main Najafgarh Market area. This region was named after Najaf Khan, a ‘Kiledar’ or ‘Fort Administrator’ of the Mughal Empire during the 16th Century AD. During that era, this region was considered as one of the Business Hubs of the Mughal period and hence witnessed a settlement of a small troop of the Mughal Empire who settled in this region and flourished rapidly. Today, it is one of the most populated electoral regions of the National Capital Region of Delhi.

Najafgarh also homes massive acres of Farm Houses, Agricultural Farmlands as well as Fruit Farmlands that belong to affluent and rich class of business people. This village is apparently ignored by the MCD and hence sees many unauthorised and illegal constructions not built according to the Master Plan of Delhi.

Najafgarh is also surrounded by a number of important villages of the South West District of Delhi. A few villages around Najafgarh are Badu Sarai, Bindapur, Chawala, Dhansa, Dichaon Kalan, Goela Khurd, Haibat Pura, Jaffer Pur, Jain Pur, Kair, Kakrola, Kangan Heri, Khera Dabar, Khera Dabar, Nanak Heri, Paprawat, Rawta, Sarang Pur, Sherpur, Shikar Pur, Togan Pur and Ujwa. Important towns such as Surkhpur and Mitraon are situated on the western side of Najafgarh while Dichaon Kalan is situated on the northern side of Najafgarh.

Najafgarh is also home to several religious and meditation centres. The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple is known as one of the most popular religious sites of this area that witnesses numerous visitors and devotees on a daily basis. This Temple is located near the power House which lies opposite to the Metro Official Site. The Shri Krishna Mandir is another place of worship situated in the furniture market of Najafgarh.

Najafgarh also homes the Shrine of a Hindu Saint named Swami Haridas and a few meditation centres such as the Ashram of Sant Sri Asaramji Bapu, Ashram of Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj at Bakkarwala, Nirmal Dham of Nirmala Devi and the Osho Dham of Guru Rajnish. The CRPF Group Centre is situated in Jharoda Kalan while the famous Bura Wala is situated in Jawahar Chowk and Dilli Darwaja which means ‘the gate to Delhi’.

Najafgarh is known as a well established grain market. Social workers like Veer Vikramaditya reside in this region while the famous Indian Cricket Player Virender Sehwag also belongs from this region. Another famous personality from this region is Sushil Kumar who is a professional wrestler who participated in the Olympics and won many accolades.

Najafgarh is close to well established areas like the Bahadurgarh, the Dwarka Sub city and Nangloi. It easily accessible by public transport like taxi cabs and auto rickshaws as well as bus services that ply frequently to and from this region at an interval of every 10 to 15 minutes. It also offers facilities like paid parking lots for cars and motorbikes.

The nearest Metro Station is Dwarka Mor that is situated approximately 5.2 Kms or 13 minutes away. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is situated about 25.5 Kms or 56 minutes away while the New Delhi Railway Station is approximately 28 Kms or 61 minutes away and the Old Delhi Railway Station is about 38.9 Kms away or more than an hour away by road. One can also use the convenience of a Metro rail to commute between the Airport and the Railway Stations from Dwarka Mor Metro Station.
