Delhi Cantonment also known as Delhi Cantt in short is known as one of the three towns that constitute the National Capital Territory of Delhi. As the name suggests, this area was established by the British Indian Army and homes a population of over 1.25 lakhs. It has an average literacy rate of 77% which is higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%.
Originally, both the Army Cantonments in Delhi and Ahmedabad were established by the British Indian Army however, today, the Cantonment in Delhi is the more popular one and homes the Headquarters of the Indian Army. Other prominent landmarks situated in this region are the Army and Air Force Public Schools, Army Golf Course, Military Housing Societies, Defence Services Officers Institute, Army Research and Referral Hospital, Armed Forces of Indias Tertiary Care Medical Centre and a nearby Delhi Cantt Railway Station with its Booking Office.
Delhi Cantt is also situated near Janakpuri and lies in close proximity to places such as Dwarka Sub City, Tilak Nagar, Dhaula Kuan, Vasant Vihar, R. K. Puram, Shanti Niketan and Satya Niketan situated just a few kilometres away. Delhi Cantonment has its own Railway Station known as the Delhi Cantt Railway Station from where various trains commence or transit and hence connects this area to the other parts of India. This Rail Link connects major Railway Stations in Rajasthan or Gujarat with Delhi. The New Delhi Railway Station [Paharganj or Ajmere Gate] is located about 13.3 Kms or 34 minutes away while the Old Delhi Railway Station [Mori Gate] is situated approximately 17.6 Kms or 48 minutes away.
Delhi Cantonment is also situated close to important places like the newly refurbish IGI and Domestic Airports that is situated approximately 11.6 Kms or 25 minutes away, Dwarka, Janak Puri, Rajouri Garden, Naraina, Tilak Nagar, Dhaula Kuan, Vasant Vihar, R. K. Puram, Shanti Niketan and Westend.
Delhi Cantt lies close to all four major transport modes including public buses, Railway Network, Metro Rail and public transports like taxi cabs and auto rickshaws that connect this area to all parts of the City as well as the Country. The First Phase of the Delhi Metro Rail Link was first operational from the South West and West Districts of Delhi.
All Major towns situated in close proximity to Delhi Cantt are connected via the Metro link that includes important towns like Dwarka, Uttam Nagar East & West, Janakpuri East & West, Tilak Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Tagore Garden, Rajouri Garden, Ramesh Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Patel Nagar, Rajendra Place, Karol Bagh, Jhandewala, RamaKrishna Ashram and Connaught Place. The New Delhi Transport Corporation Office also has one of its biggest Headquarters in Dwarka Sector 8 and buses ply to and from different parts of the National Capital Territory and the National Capital Region to and from this region.
